From the medinas of Marrakech and Fes to the Sahara dunes, the blue streets of Chefchaouen and the Atlantic coast: the places we plan private trips to, and how to combine them.
Morocco is bigger and more varied than it looks on a map. Each of these destinations has its own guide below, with the best things to do, when to go, how long to stay and how it fits into a private itinerary.
The classic southern loop: Marrakech, over the Tizi n'Tichka pass to Aït Ben Haddou and Ouarzazate, through the Dades and Todra gorges to the Merzouga dunes. Allow at least 3 days for the desert part alone.
2. The Imperial Cities and the North
Casablanca or Rabat, Chefchaouen in the Rif Mountains, then Fes with a stop at the Roman ruins of Volubilis and the imperial city of Meknes.
3. The Grand Tour
With 10 to 15 days you can link the north and the south: Casablanca, Chefchaouen, Fes, the Sahara at Merzouga, the kasbah route, Marrakech and a few days on the coast in Essaouira.
