Why Visit

Why Visit the Sahara at Merzouga

For many travelers, the night in the Sahara is the moment they remember most from Morocco. Merzouga is a small village at the edge of Erg Chebbi, the country’s best-known sea of sand dunes, with crests rising up to around 150 metres.

The classic experience is simple and unforgettable: ride a camel across the dunes as the sun sets, spend the night in a desert camp, and climb a dune at dawn to watch the light turn the sand from pink to gold.

Merzouga is usually reached on a multi-day route from Marrakech via Ouarzazate and the gorges, or from Fes through the Middle Atlas.
